The US Department of ‘Justice’ declared this week that New York City — along with Portland and Seattle — to be a “jurisdiction permitting violence and destruction property.”  Allegedly our state and local government are permitting anarchy, violence, and destruction

So of course I had to take a look. So far, this is what I can report:

Weather: Warm, sunny, rather hazy.
Mask compliance: Fairly good to good. Needs improvement.
Anarchy: In the children’s playground many toddlers accompanied by adults were running amok. Some shrieking by older children heard in a second playground
Violence: None observed
Destruction of property: One sandcastle
Obstruction: Street temporarily closed off to facilitate school business.
Statue Status: Frederick Douglass still standing.
Signage: Closed fist ‘Don’t Walk’ sign unfortunately now repaired
Harlem Meer: Reflective
Central Park Conservancy Garden: Gorgeous.

Lasker Rink, Central Park flags at half-mast in respect for Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Toddlers running amok in the playground.

Rampaging hordes out of control

Many riots of color in the garden

A riotous assembly of sparrows at the Frances Hodgson Burnett Fountain.

These two anarchists are destroying sandcastles

Hurrying off to the latest antifa uprising

  • It was recently reported that --no surprise there--the biggest threat in Portland was from far right groups. My Portland friends report that the "riots" consist of about 200 people each evening.

    • All the evidence and data show that white supremacist groups are the biggest threat to law and order in America. Thanks to the tRump, violent terrorist right-wing groups have been on the rise and have become emboldened. And of course, they are awash with military-style weaponry.

  • Dear me, how can you bear it? If I were you and Sue I’d get out of that den of iniquity, that hub of discord and valley of tears as quickly as I could.

    • You mean you have no rampageous toddlers? No flowers? No body of water for reflection? No quiet shady walks? What kind of place is this suburban Australia? It sounds like a nightmare.

      • Er, I was referring to the US Department of Justice declaration, the rest you may have to visit and find out for yourself :)

    • It's an improvement!

Always good to have random punctuation. I had a teacher once who made me write out many lines of commas and full stops to (allegedly) teach me their importance. Didn't work as education but it did waste my time. Perhaps that was the real point.

      • I just wanted to signal your humour. We need it at present. That proclamation (?) about NY violence parodies itself.

        • Just when you think they can no lower...they take a deep dive.

Same with the Boris as I understand it. He's gone such a long way down since the harmless truthiness of "recreational grief" that caused such an outrage back in the day. To me, that remark is his only redeeming feature. The tRump on the other hand has no such moments of redemption.

  • Toddlers running amuck and destroying sand castles? Lock 'em up! Throw away the key! Make America safe again!

    • I know! Whatever next? With this kind of mayhem in a major American city, we clearly need to turn to s nice fascist strongperson to keep us safe.

And with that, I think: How lucky we are that the tRump is actually stupid and totally incompetent. We need to shape up and remove him and all his ilk and enablers before an intelligent and competent wannabe dictator comes along. You know the sort- builds autobahns, makes the trains run on time, and puts a chicken in every white supremacist pot.

  • I see that the void between reality and political rhetoric flourishes in both sides of Pond. Meanwhile tranquility and beauty to be enjoyed without destabilising society. Long may it last.

    • Always true. And as Masha Gessen has said: Outrage is hard to sustain. But it is preferable to the alternative: anxiety.

As in depression is anger turned inward I suppose.

But the garden was lovely today and the chrysanthemums have not even started and they are always glorious.
