We are well into the election season although the actual vote is well over a year away. This time in 2020 we will know our Democratic presidential candidate.

It’s a crowded field and candidates must find a way to distinguish themselves from the pack. Right now we have four clear leaders – Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. There’s a raft of others, some of whom have serious merit and ideas to contribute. And the sooner most of them drop out the better.

To help things along – especially as we have debates this week – I have some speech suggestions for the candidates that might help them stand out by fitting in. So just in case any candidate needs some words:

Let me be clear
Make no mistake about it
At the end of the day
These are not ordinary times.

I want to be clear
Americans across this country are fired up around the kitchen table
In every county in Iowa
Bread and butter issues and the stakes of this
Not an ordinary election couldn’t be any higher.

Let me be clear
Hardworking Americans
Will not rest at the end of the day
That’s why in my plan
We must have a national conversation to deliver results
Increase benefits
For the middle class soul of America
Safeguard future generations
And ensure billionaires pay their fair share of
Social Security and child care trade agreements.

Let me be clear
All over this country
There is no instant solution
It’s going to take time. Be brave
The American people need a 3am agenda for
Big structural change
That works not just for the
Billionaires on Wall Street
But for one nation, one destiny.
On a pathway to citizenship, economic justice and international agreements for all.

Let me be clear
I am grateful to teachers who believed in
My destiny
Growing up I was born humble.
The American people need
A Proven Fighter for change
My whole life, I’ve had bedrock principles for the people.
I was born to run in an America where abortion was illegal
Putting reproductive division aside to bring people together for
National paid family leave and the opioid crisis
Why families go broke.
It’s time for new leadership in Washington.
Lock up the swamp and rebuild the middle class.

Let me be clear
Let’s get to work on not me but us
Vacuum out private equity
Restoring our values,
Coming together to fight for
The ragged edge of Aunt Bee.
To restore moral integrity to America’s leadership we must
Protect our planet with philosophy
Optional Medicare rights for all
Bring together to listen and lead with compassion
And criminal justice reform.

Let me be clear
Hard-working families
Keep America safe
So every person can see a doctor
Making the economy work for all of us
And get the care they need for sane gun laws.
We need to rise to the occasion and meet the challenges of our day.
We are the greatest nation who went to the moon
Restoring our values in Normandy
Fighting for families
We did it in world war two and we can do it again
Moral integrity pay raises for teachers,
Restore America’s leadership
That’s why I’m calling for accountable above the law
Debt-free college.

Let me be clear
We are living through a battle for America at a crossroads
My family instilled in me
The soul of this nation and strong labor unions are
A window of opportunity.
The promise is still ahead of us.
We need universal, guaranteed, high-quality optimism
Health care so every person can see a doctor,
Afford their prescriptions, and
Get their full potential.

Let me be clear
My whole life.
I say this
Brave wins
Make America moral again
We need a wide range of options across the board
This is our moment of truth
And you are a part of it.
Ugliness, racism and divisive rhetoric
With service, hard work and responsibility for all.
Better 2020 vision. No racist spectacle.
Defining moment governed not by chaos and hate but
opportunity, clean energy and love.

Let me be clear
We must send a clear signal to the American people
We stand before them
And behind solutions that work
No matter where we come from in the future
Build a new promise for whatever your religion
For our families and our communities and renewable energy and a Green new deal.

Let me be clear
With all due respect let me just say
This is the most important election in our lifetime
The fact of the matter is as Abraham Lincoln told us
There are no easy answers.
Looking at a comprehensive raft of measures across the board.
And again, if I can just make this point
It’s going to take time.
Clearly a political revolution
Having said that
Let me at this stage be absolutely open and honest
Our message is very clear and very simple
We’ve won and we’ve lost, but we’ve never stopped fighting
Battle for the soul of this nation and fossil fuel
America we are better than this.
Only when democracy works can we work with democracy to make our democracy work again
My policy on securing our elections and the top marginal tax rate is
I marched to the border with Martin Luther King
In a national conversation
With a grassroots return to love movement to stop
Nuclear proliferation and restore our alliances.

Let me be clear
We need to articulate the values,
Lay out our philosophical commitments
Develop policies off politics and a guaranteed income.
We can’t put the cart before the horse and
A corrupt campaign finance system
We are a nation of immigration reform
Being put to the test but I’m a politician and
I work for you and a pathway to citizenship.

Let me just say this
What we need to do is
Millions of people.
For the people
Speaking truth and demanding justice
Broken criminal justice system
A fresh start generation of American leadership.

Let Me be Clear
I have. I will. Look.
When I am President we will. Will not.
Experience America needs with the challenges we meet.
A better America that we know we can be in living memory
We are the greatest nation and where there is unity
Our military families deserve better.
Battle to remember who we are as Americans coming together to fight
The abuses of power, fake news, lies and the evil one who shall remain nameless.
Dig deep, build a movement, and never forget the best days ahead
The lines that divide include us bind people like you
Put aside our differences with
Nothing we can’t do together.
The tax reform billionaire class.
Raise our voices.
Lower the boom on corruption
Save our democracy
The wealthy and the well-connected won’t be easy.
United by our values, we can make big, structural change.
We can raise our voices together until this fight is won.
Equal justice under law

But let me be clear
This is the fight of our lives. Together.
Build an America that works for everyone, not just the wealthy and the well-connected
It won’t be easy.
But united by our values, big structural change and save our planet
We can raise our voices together until this fight is won.
Equal justice under law

Dream big, fight hard
And win!

This is not the time for small ideas.
I have a plan
Please Vote For Me

    • Not a fan although I see the appeal. In the words of Gertrude Stein, I don't see the there, there. No substance, no ideology and in the end no clue about what to do and how to do it. This is in spite of all the Mckinseyesque data and managerial and consultant speak. Or maybe it's because of it. What does he stand for?
This article spoke to a lot of what I think:
"Reading Buttigieg Told Me Everything I Need to Know About the 2020 Presidential Race"
      https://www.thenation.com/article/pete-buttigieg-south-bend-shortest-way-home/

All in for Warren. We would all be so lucky if she can pull this off. She is the clear unTrump who can take on the huge task of unTrumping. Then - bring on the big structural change! It's time to think big again and enough with the tinkering at the margins of the problems we face.

  • There are only so many ways to say the same thing, so I don't know what the alternative is, except to listen to Trump say the same thing in so few words.
As far as I'm concerned, the Dems could pick a candidate today and we could vote tomorrow, as I (and most Americans who value integrity and 'know' Trump) won't vote for him no matter who the Dems choose.

    • This is true. However - given the wide range of the candidates it is an opportunity to find one who - beyond the orange-crested booby marmalade moron - can actually bring about the transformation we need to survive, and thrive. Tackling corruption at a crucial foundational step for one thing. And so for me - that says Warren. But ABT for sure is where we start. But then - let's dream a bit about how we could actually build something much better than a reset to 2016.

But this interminable election process is exhausting!
