Images for Winter and a Winter Robin

I found this on the London Library Advent calendar. Just the perfect image for anything a little Christmassy with a touch of vintage thrown in. This robin was for day 10.

Redbreast By A.W. Seaby. The British Bird Book, Ed. Kirkman, F.B. London & Edinburgh, T.C. & E.C. Jack, 1911.

It was the perfect pic for the home-made greeting card.

All of the images were interesting and here are a few more that caught my eye.

Day 11: An ice-laden tree in the New Forest spruced up for the season.

Spruced Up William Gilpin. Remarks on forest scenery, and other woodland views, relative chiefly to picturesque beauty illustrated by the scenes of New Forest in Hampshire / by William Gilpin. : London : Printed for T. Cadell and W. Davies, 1808. v. 1.

Day 13: Shooting Star over St.Paul’s:

Agnes Giberne, Sun, Moon, and Stars: a Book for Beginners. New York: Robert Carter and Brothers, 1880.

Day 17: A Montage of Snowflakes;  Magnified Drawings of Snow Crystals

Before he achieved international fame, James Glaisher, meteorologist, aeronaut, astronomer (and president of the Royal Meteorological Society from 1867 to 1868) presented his close up analysis of snow crystals in an article in The Illustrated London News published on 1st February 1855. These are some of his illustrations from that piece.

Day 23: In Winter’s Grip: Sheep in the Snow

From the painting by J Farquharson RA Reprinted in The Illustrated London News Christmas edition, December 1921

Thank you London Library for these seasonal delights.
