The Essential Capacities

I’m not sure when PDS became a member of NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) but it was a long time ago. A few years back they published their  short and quite excellent wonderful online  A Guide to Becoming a School of the Future.

The first section makes the case for schools of the future and if there’s anyone out there not convinced of the need for change then it’s required reading.

The second part is about the identified Essential Capacities for our century. (See below)

And part three offers examples – not formulas or plans or blueprints but rather an invitation to explore what others have done.

The appendix and the resources are invaluable.

Here then is a slideshow of the Essential Capacities.  Turn it into a quick mental checklist and see how we’re doing. (My verdict ranges from:  Exceptionally well  – Um. Not so much. Let’s get cracking and make it happen.
