The Signs

Pedantry, Politics, and the Park Ranger

Activists persist in plastering all available neighborhood surfaces with their messages. Here’s a small selection:

The Red-tailed Hawks and Raccoons of New York

Big excitement with the report that red tailed hawks are nesting on Riverside Drive and a new message from the Park Rangers

Bumper stickers tell a story

New blooms at Wave Hill

And the fraternity flag display of W114th Street, at Columbia.

  1. Oh, my Lord, what a morning!
But I woke up before dawn to a day much like the day before.
    I was disappointed.
Will there ever be a morning that breaks like the first morning.
I speck not, said the constipated fly.

  2. We thought that sign was put up in Riverside Park by one of the local residents. My daughters once saw a woman feeding spaghetti to the the racoons on the wall…people are crazy. But as they said, it should be on the wall, because that’s where people leave food for them.
And I see hawks all the time on the Upper West Side, in the park, in the sky, on buildings.

  3. I see the queers for Palestine crowd are still at their nonsense at Columbia.
Have to say i would take the grammar pedant over the pronoun confused parent.

  4. No chiz…in nature..each year, up comes Spring. PS Is Molesworth drawn from you? ….the look is reminiscent.

  5. Good to see there is some resistance. We have an election next month and some politicians are modelling themselves on the idiots in the U S There is a very rich man who has started his own political party which he has called the Trumpet of Patriots. .

    1. I was reading about the Trumpet of Patriots (what a name!) person. Plus some of the other political insanity your way. The easiest explanation is that in 2020 the world went mad and we have yet to recover. I don’t see many signs of recovery here in the US. We have an administration bent on creating chaos and promoting incompetence and corruption and an opposition that has yet to come to terms with why it lost and what to do about it. The brightest spark of hope comes in the form of a 22 year old progressive Democrat in New Hampshire who appears to be the one politician capable of making sense. Naturally, his party walked out on him.

  6. Such an interesting collection. Kind of tells the story of our times. Wild life and Nature keep plugging along while human beings get stupider and stupider. Especially at elite colleges and universities it seems.
